SET to launch new Software Engineering program
In order to help address the region’s growing need for software development specialists, the School of Engineering and Technology’s Computer Science and Information Management program is launching a new master’s degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Software Engineering. The first intake will be in January 2007.
The software development and information technology industries are changing rapidly. New tools and methodologies for development and systems integration are improving the interoperability, robustness, and development time for large software systems. Success as a software development specialist or technical project manager in today's industrial job market now requires not only a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of computer science and software development, but also practical training in the increasingly powerful and complex techniques being used to build and maintain modern software systems. Universities in the Asia-Pacific region are not keeping up with the regional demand for highly-trained specialists with both strong foundational knowledge in computer science and practical software development skills.
AIT’s program will emphasize:
- In-depth training in the latest software development tools and techniques.
- Industrial best practices for management of large software projects.
- Experience on real problems in collaboration with public and private sector partners during internships.
The Software Engineering program is particularly aimed at students already having work experience in the software industry.
