AIT holds 106th graduation

AIT holds 106th graduation



On 15 December 2006, AIT held the 106th Graduation Ceremony to 160 students from 19 countries at the AIT Conference Center. AIT President Said Irandoust presided over the ceremony. Dr. Tej Bunnag, the newly appointed chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, delivered the graduation address.



H.E. Prof. Banh Tien Long, vice minister, Ministry of Education and Training, presented the Friendship Order to AIT during the ceremony. The Friendship Order is the highest award given in the area of international relations and is presented to foreign institutions and persons that have contributed to human resource training for Vietnam, and to the development of friendly relations between Vietnam and other countries. Prof. Irandoust accepted the award on behalf of AIT.


Among the 160 graduates, 38 from the School of Engineering and Technology, 34 from the School of Environment, Resources and Development, and 88 from the School of Management. Of the 160 graduates, 135 received master’s degrees, 24 doctoral degrees, and 1 diploma. The total number of AIT degree-holders now stands at 14,771.



At the graduation ceremony, there was the installation of new professors to Prof. Nazrul Islam of School of Management and Prof. Ganesh Shivakoti of School of Environment, Resources and Development, who gave the professorial remarks.




Four outstanding graduates were presented with graduation prizes:

John A. Hrones Prize and the AIT Alumni Associaton Prize

Mr. Panupong Piyawongsomboon, Thai, (Management of Technology, SOM), obtained his bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Kasetsart University in 2001. He worked as a site engineer for M103 International Company Ltd., Thailand, prior to joining AIT. His thesis title is “Supply Chain Integration: A Case Study of Big-C Superstore, Thailand.”



The Tim Kendall Memorial Prize

Miss Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh, Vietnamese, (International Public Management, SOM), obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Institute for International Relations, Vietnam, in 2002. She worked as an administrative assistant for the SIDA Project at the Office of the National Assembly of Vietnam before joining AIT. Her thesis title is “Roles of International Non-Governmental Organizations in Poverty Alleviation: The Case of Vietnam.


The Thyssen Budd Automotive Prize

Mr. Sanjay Bhatnagar, Indian, (Executive MBA Program, SOM), received his bacheor’s in Chemical Engineering from Punjab University, India in 1986. He worked as a manager for Kangwal Polyester Company Limited in Thailand before joining AIT. His project’s title is “Road Map for Kangwal Polyester Co. Ltd. in Mid-term (8-10 years) for Success and Survival in the Dynamic & Competitive Man Made Textile Market.”



Mr. Sameer Prasad, Indian, (Executive MBA Program, SOM), graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Delhi, India, in 1990. He served as a country manager for T.S. Lifestyle (Thailand) Limited before joining AIT. His project’s title is “Launching of the ‘Next’ Brand in Thailand: A Study of the Retail and Branded Fashion Landscape.”
