The EU Thailand Social Support Projects - Tsunami Extension
Followings are some salients facts on the EU Thailand Social Support Projects – Tsunami Extension recently presented by the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.
Interested persons please indicate your interest in making proposals to this call to Ms. Mary Caspillo at scpo@ait.ac.th so that Sponsored and Contracted Projects Office may plan a meeting next week with interested colleagues.
Please note that this project will be coordinated by the bank and will located in Thailand. It is encouraged to include Thai colleagues and partners institutes in proposals.
Social Support Project- tsunami extension

The overall objective is to assist the rural communities affected by the tsunami disaster of 26 December 2004 in boosting their economic activities and coping with the social and economic impact.
Expected results
- EC assistance reaches the selected affected communities through selected Applicants (called Beneficiary or Contracting party) who are awarded the grant contracts (for supporting the communities) by BAAC.
- Economic rehabilitation has taken place in the selected communities and the results are sustained.
- Cooperation, actions, and lessons learned are shared between SSP, BAAC, Beneficiaries, Government agencies and other donors.
- The visibility of SSP, BAAC and the EU are enhanced.
Priority issues
A. Support to specific economic rehabilitation of communities who are directly and indirectly affected by the tsunami, which may cover agriculture and non-farm/agriculture sectors, clients and non-BAAC clients.
B. Support for the improvement of general economic conditions and livelihoods of the affected communities.
- The target areas are the six tsunami-affected provinces: Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Satun and Phuket
- BAAC will preferably, but not necessarily, award a grant contract by province. A proposal should preferably be confined to one of the 6 tsunami affected provinces listed above.
Launch of the call: 4 December 2006
Indicative EC contribution: 3,425,000 Euros

Minimum EC Grant/project: 200,000 Euros
Maximum EC Grant/project: 600,000 Euros
EC Grant may not exceed 90 percent of the total eligible costs of the action proposed
The balance from the applicant's or partners' resources, or from sources other than the European Community budget or the European Development Fund.
Duration of actions: - may not be lower than 16 months nor exceed 20 months. All grant contracts will end on 31 December 2008, at the latest.
Applicants may submit more than one proposal and an applicant may be awarded more than one grant.
Deadline for applications: Wednesday 7 February 2006, at 4:00 p.m.( Bangkok local time)
Other matters: BAAC will be one evaluating the proposals composed of specialists on the field focusing on economic rehabilitation.
The awarded institute will be accountable to BAAC but EC rules will still apply.
