AIT and UNITAR pursue specific areas of collaboration

More specific areas of collaboration between AIT and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), under the broad concept paper submitted to the ASEAN Secretary General, were discussed during the visit of Mr. Nico Barito, Senior Fellow, UNITAR, to AIT on 15 February 2007. Mr. Barito is also a member of the AIT Center in Indonesia Steering Committee.

During the visit, Mr. Nico met with Professor S. Rakshit, Vice President for Research, Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean of School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Dr. Raimo Malinen, Dr. BHW Hadikusumo and Dr. Jok Widjaja. The meeting discussed areas in which there could be partnership with Indonesian industries in pulp and paper, food industry, and in-house continuous training for the Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) in Congo and Indonesia.

The Vice President for Research will form a task force to develop some concrete proposals which will be presented at an AIT-UNITAR workshop tentatively planned for April 2007, which the ASEAN Secretary General will also be invited to attend.

The synergies between AIT and UNITAR exist in developing modalities of Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to be applied to answer the concerns and needs of communities, enterprises and local authorities and sub-national governments.
