AIT and Jönköping University to launch 2-stage master’s program

AIT and Jönköping University, Sweden, plan to launch a 2-stage master’s program as discussed during the visit of Professor Roy Holmberg and Professor Ingvar Svensson from the School of Engineering, Jönköping University [http://www.hj.se/eng/ ]on 6 March 2007. Professor Holmberg, who is also Dean of the Managing Director's Office at the School of Engineering, announced that Jönköping University, a front runner among Swedish universities for job placement after graduation, was interested in increasing interactions in Asia and would like to partner AIT in various areas.



The 2-stage master’s program is one of the partnership prospects between the two universities. Under this program, students would spend one year at AIT and the other at Jönköping University.

The two institutes also expect to introduce Asian oriented programs as part of the engineering curriculum wherein students from Jönköping University will spend a semester at AIT.

To provide Asian exposure for students from Jönköping University, the concept of summer and winter school short sessions at AIT will be introduced. Under this program, students from Jönköping University will spend 3 to 4 weeks in Thailand with AIT as a base.

Jönköping University Foundation is one of three independent higher education institutions (non-government owned) in Sweden entitled to offer postgraduate programs. The University has a very strong international business school with a unique focus on entrepreneurship programs and strong profile in engineering and technology geared towards small and medium-sized enterprises. It has extensive collaboration with other universities in Sweden such as Chalmers University of Technology and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH).
