AIT became the newest affiliated institute of the United Nations University. A Menorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AIT and UNU was signed by Dr. J. A. Hans van Ginkel, UNU Rector and AIT President, Prof. Said Irandoust during the AIT-UNU brainstorming workshop held at AIT on 27-28 March 2007. Representatives from donor agencies as well as partner institutions, such as United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Environment Program Regional Resource Center for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP RRC.AP), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), European Union (EU) Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), Thailand, witnessed the MoU signing ceremony between AIT and UNU.
“The proposed collaboration will target on Urban futures and mega cities; Water management with focus on Mekong River Sub-region and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs); On-line learning; and Biodiplomacy”, informed Prof. Ajit P. Annachhatre who is coordinating this initiative from AIT.
The 2-day workshop aimed at identifying and developing potential collaborative activities and planning in procuring resources in joint activities. Experts from UNU and AIT convened to deliberate on various collaborative themes to look into the operational aspects of the cooperation.
