6th Research Meeting of the Sustainable Water Management Policy (SWMP)

The 6 th Research Meeting of the Sustainable Water Management Policy (SWMP) project, co-organized by the Water Engineering and Management (WEM) field of study, School of Engineering and Technology (SET) and Institute for Global
Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan, took place at AIT on 19 and 20 March 2007. The meeting was attended by 40 participants including research partners, policy makers and other stakeholders from seven countries: China, Indonesia,
Japan, Korea , Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand. Professor Shinichiro Ohgaki (Professor and Former Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo, Japan ), project leader, who serves as one of the Vice Chairmen of the AIT Board of Trustees, also participated the meeting.

Assisting in organize the meeting was Dr. Mukand Singh Babel, WEM field of study coordinator, who also presented the Thailand case study.

SWMP is a three-year research programme launched by IGES in April 2004 to propose recommendations for sustainable water management in Asian cities, based on empirical studies, with a focus on groundwater.
