Positive developments at AIT Center in Vietnam

During the meeting between Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, and Dr. Frederic Swierczek, Interim Director of the AIT Center in Vietnam last week, the President was informed of some positive developments at AIT Center in Vietnam. Dr. Swierczek together with Professor Nguyen Cong Thanh (Senior Advisor to the Director of AITCV and former Director of the AITCV) have met with several key partners including the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), Electivity of EVN and Petro-Vietnam.

There is very significant support and good will for AIT and AITCV. Professor Nhan, Minister of Education and Training (MOET), has a strong interest in AIT cooperating in MOET's initiative to increase the number of university staff with doctorates (five-year plan to train 2000 doctoral level faculty). He expects AIT to take the initiative for 100-200 PhDs per year. Project 322, the scholarship agency of MOET, will include AIT in its Master Plan 2007-2010 for master's as well as doctoral degrees, and has already recommended 15 doctoral scholarships to AIT for the August 2007 intake. The number of scholarships could be expected to increase in the remainder of 2007 and 2008.
