Visit of Azerbaijan’s ICT Minister and Prospects for Partnership with AIT



H.E. Professor Ali Abbasov, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, Republic of Azerbaijan, will be visiting Thailand and Vietnam from 10-14 April 2007 in order to explore possible collaborations as well as for the exchange and sharing of ideas and experiences in information technology, education and human resources development. The Minister will be accompanied by Professor Fikret Aliev, Advisor to the Minister; Mr. Ayaz Bayramov, Head of the International Relations; and Mr. Bahram Atabeyli, from Chalmers, Sweden.

The visit is on the invitations of AIT, Thailand’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister H.E. Dr. Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom and Vietnam’s Education and Training Minister H.E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, and Post and Telecommunications Minister H.E. Mr. Do Trung Ta.

On 11 April, Minister Abbasov will meet with Minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom to discuss the establishment of ICT relations between the two countries, involvement of Thai investors in the ICT sector of Azerbaijan and other issues of mutual interest. The Minister and delegation will be accompanied by Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President; Prof. Vilas Wuwognse; Vice President for External Relations; and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean of School of Engineering and Technology. He will later join the Conference Banquet of the 12th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applicants (DASFAA2007) organized by AIT.

On 12 April, Minister Abbasov, accompanied by H.E. Mr. Cinar Aldemir, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, will visit AIT during which there will also be a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between AIT and the Ministry of ICT, Azerbaijan.

President Irandoust will also be accompanying the Minister and delegation to Vietnam as part of which there will also be a visit to the AIT Center in Vietnam.
