Two new AIT graduates win paper competition
Papers written by two AIT newly graduates (May 2007) Mr. Didin Agustian Permadi (left) and Mr. Kok Sothea (right) from Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM), School of Environment, Resources and Development ( SERD) were among the winners at the graduate level of a competition organized by the West Coast Section – Air & Waste Management Association of U.S.A. Mr. Permadi's paper is entitled "Photochemical smog pollution in Jakarta and management strategy development using CAMx-MM5 modeling system". Mr. Sothea's paper on "Emission inventory for modeling air quality for Phnom Penh, Cambodia" received the special comment of one of the reviewers as the most sophisticated work representing an attempt to gain insight into the air quality issues of a major metropolitan city (Phnom Penh City, Cambodia) based on relatively limited data concerning the emission sources.

Role of 3R KH Highlighted in ADB President Speech
ADB President Mr. Haruhiko Kuroda, in his address delivered at ADB's 40th Annual Meeting of Board of Governors on 6 May 2007, in Kyoto Japan, noted that the knowledge networks, supported by hubs of excellence, will help build capacity across developing Asia and the Pacific to tackle future challenges, and in this context referred to the 3R's-reduce, reuse, recycle knowledge hub established by ADB at AIT in partnership with UNEP and UNESCAP.

Dean Worsak elected Speaker for 2008 World Congress on Computational Mechanics
Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, for having been elected by the largest number of votes to serve as semi-plenary speaker at the World Congress on Computational Mechanics scheduled to take place in Venice, Italy in 2008. This is the first time that the International Association of Computational Mechanics (IACM) has called on its worldwide council members to vote for three plenary and six semi-plenary speakers.

Dr. Thammarat Koottatep of Environmental Engineering and Management Field of Study, SERD, and colleagues whose project proposal on 'Wastewater Reuse and Recycling for Industrial, Domestic and Agricultural Sectors in Thailand' has recently been approved by the Pollution Control Department (PCD) with a budget of about 9.5 million Baht.

Dr. Nitin K. Tripathi of Remote Sensing & Geographic Information Systems, SET, was awarded the Osaka City University (OCU) Fellowship for Foreign Researchers by the President of OCU. The Fellowship was established in 1992 to promote international cooperation and mutual understanding in the field of scientific research.

Renovation of Faculty and Staff Housing Units: Chaired by Professor Lalit M Johri, the task force will review the proposal of the successful proponent, further negotiate with the proponent, and subsequently finalize a contract.

AIT Community School participates in celebrating World Environment Day
The AIT Community School (AITCS) is participating in Institute activities to celebrate World Environment Day and AIT's Environment Month. Among AITCS planned activities are: placing waste segregation bins at AITCS; celebration of its annual day at the AIT Conference Center Auditorium on 5 June 2007 to launch the Institute's celebrations, which would include an English play 'Caring for our Earth and Its Environment'; planting of shady trees at the AITCS grounds; reintroduction of environmental studies in its curriculum; and reintroduction and revival of its Environmental Club from the next school year.
