A general Memorandum of Understanding with Kalmar University towards establishing
educational relations, research and cooperation between AIT and Kalmar was signed on 20
April 2007 at AIT. The MoU will also enable students to enroll in subjects at the host
institution for credit and could be applied towards the degree at the respective home
institutions. There was the discussion on the exchange agreement with Kalmar University
under which AIT could partner Kalmar in their planned bachelor in environmental sciences
program and also assist them in promoting the program in Asia.
Under the above agreement, the bachelor of science students from Kalmar will spend the 10
final weeks of their studies at AIT for thesis work. Other modes of partnership could
also include a two-stage masters or sandwiched Ph.D. program.
Professor S. Kumar, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development, Professor C.
Vsivanathan, and Dr. Thi Kim Oanh, have been actively involved in pursuing this
innovative initiative.
