On 14 May 2007, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between AIT and the International Center of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM). ICE WaRM is an initiative funded by the Australian Government headquarter in Adelaide. It was established in 2004 as a collaborative partnership between several Australian universities and associate research centers, water management agencies and private sector water industry which aim to provide a national focus and international gateway to Australian expertise in water resources management, education, training and research.
Signing the MoU were AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust and Mr. Richard Hopkins, CEO, ICEWaRM, Australia.
This MoU will facilitate scholarships for master degree candidates at one of the ICE WaRM partner universities in Australia. Under its provisions they will do their research, or 1 year of study at AIT in the field of Water Resources Management. The MoU covers faculty and student exchange, joint short-term training, joint supervision of research and it defines the mechanisms for AIT to become an international partner of ICEWaRM.
Initial discussions toward drafting the MoU were carried out by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Fundraising Campaign Director, under the leadership of Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein, Vice President for Development and Resources with Dr. K. Baskaran (EV'88), Associate Professor and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology, Deakin University, Australia.
