Collaborative Project on Protected Cultivation with University of Hannover Continued


The University of Hannover (HU) will continue the collaborative research program project on "Protected Cultivation - An Approach to Sustainable Vegetable Production in the Humid Tropics" between AIT-HU-Kasetsart University (KU) which was to come to an end this year.
According to Professor Dr. Hans-Michael Poehling, Director, Institute of Plant Diseases and Plant Protection (IPP), Hannover University, and Professor Dr. Edgar Maiss, IPP Department Head, who met with AIT President Said Irandoust on 3 May 2007, the continuing collaborative research program is expected to continue under an enlarged scientific scope, with both scientific and service parts. Under the new scheme, the project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) will include sub-projects in the fields of biotechnology, production, post-harvest and economy. AIT Professor Vilas M. Salokhe has been a focal person in this initiative and will be taking the lead into the next phase of the cooperation.
Dr. Johannes Max, Bangkok Global Project Coordinator, who is currently on secondment to AIT from IPP, also participated in the meeting.
