Funding for Research at Deakin University for Top AIT Students
Deakin University, through its projects with industry, will fully fund a few most outstanding students in relevant fields to spend up to 3 months doing their research at Deakin's advanced research centres in biotechnology and materials and fiber innovation.
This was agreed during the visit of Prof. Andrew Parratt, Director, Institute of Biotechnology (Biodeakin) and Prof Peter Hodgson ARC Federation fellow, Alfred Deakin Professor, Centre for Materials and Fibre innovation, Faculty of Science and Technology, Deakin University, Australia, to AIT on 21 May 2007. They paid a courtesy call on AIT President Said Irandoust, and had detailed meetings within Vice President for Research, Prof. Sudip Rakshit, Prof. S. Kumar, Dean SERD, and Associate Dean SET Dr. Joydeep Dutta.
It was agreed that Dean SERD will directly coordinate with Prof Parratt on joint supervision of master's thesis programs. Dr. Joydeep Dutta will directly coordinate with Prof. Peter Hodgson on a similar activity pertaining to nanotechnology, etc.
During their discussion with Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein, Vice President for Development and Resources, the delegation from Deakin University raised the point that through Deakin's MoU with AIT, there is a possibility of jointly bidding for Aus-Aid funding on joint research activities in certain fields/disciplines. VP-DR will continue this discussion with the senior Deakin faculty members.
