Nine faculty members from several Thai universities will jointly conduct research projects with AIT faculty through the funding of the Royal Thai Government. On 25 April 2007, Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, presented certificates of Joint Research Project under RTG Funding to these faculty and researchers. The event was also attended by AIT faculty who are going to work under this joint project; Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, RTG Faculty Representative; and Mrs. Wannapa Pliensri, RTG Coordinator.
The projects, which will last for one year, aim at promoting joint research and academic activities between AIT and Thai faculty members in state universities or researchers from state research institutions, in order to create possible long-term linkages. It is expected that the outcome of the joint research and academic activities will be beneficial to both sides, to Thailand and the region.
In his welcome speech at the certificate granting ceremony, AIT President said during Fiscal Year 2006 (October 2006-September 2007), the Royal Thai Government has granted a budget of 17.5 million baht, through the Commission on Higher Education, Thailand, for AIT to conduct joint research projects with national state universities or research institutions, and the industry and business sectors.
“AIT’s half-century of international experience at the service of the development of the region, its established brand name, its international pool of experts in development and its strong networks of partners in the region and in the world make it a unique partner for the development of the region. AIT has effectively been serving as a platform, think tank, a knowledge hub, and education and R&D center for cooperation ventures between external donors, governments, private and public sector, civl society etc. for the benefit of the region. AIT considers this gathering a great honour and is a testimony of the trust placed in the Institute by the Royal Thai Government and its partners,” he added.
The projects require commitment of the selected faculty or researchers to involvement in full-time work at AIT for a period of or combined periods of not less than 3 months.
These projects are in accordance with the AIT Vision toward becoming a leading and unique regional multicultural institution of higher learning, offering state-of-the-art education, research and training in technology, management and societal development
