Diplomats from various Asian and European countries in Bangkok participated in a collabotative training program on "Intellectual Property and Development" for the Diplomatic Community in Bangkok.

AIT Earthquake Guru Warns Moderate Tremor in Bangkok Could kill Thousands of People
Dr. Pennung Warnitchai, Coordinator of Structural Engineering Field of Study, School of Engineering and Technology and an AIT earthquake guru said if an earthquake of a moderate force hits Bangkok anytime, it could kill thousands of people.

Under the approval of AIT President Said Irandoust, the first Steering Committee meeting of the Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign (GJFC) will take place on 26 June 2007. According to AIT President, the primary task of the Steering Committee members is to provide ideas and suggestions, cautions on fundraising from Schools, as well as from faculty, staff and community at large to the GJFC. The steering Committee would also serve to act as a mechanism to ensure awareness, internal ownership, wide involvement and popularity and commitment on the part of all AITians towards the GJFC.

Post-graduate Course on Technology and Sustainable Development

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM ) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (Ecole Polytechnique F?d?rale de Lausanne - EPFL) will organize the third edition of a sixteen-week long joint post-graduate course on 'Technology and Sustainable Development - Innovative and integrated approaches in emerging countries' at the IIT Madras, India from 2 January - 22 April 2008. The course is open to graduate students and professionals, with a university degree, in various occupations who are not necessarily specialists in the field.

Professor Salokhe to Serve as an International Reviewer of Research Proposals

Professor Vilas Salokhe has been invited to serve as an international reviewer of research proposals submitted by Croatian scientists to be financed by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.

Ms. Polboon Nuntamanop, an AIT Doctoral student at the School of Management, was featured in the Business Section of The Nation newspaper on 8 June 2007. The article, written by Kwanchai Rungfapaisarn, shares Ms. Polboon work experience in many multinational companies in the past 20 years.

Seminar on "Strategic Planning in Higher Education - A Guide for Leaders"
Dr Ioan Marinescu (http://www-mime.eng.utoledo.edu/people/faculty/imarinescu/), Professor, Mechanical, Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Department, and Director of the Precision Micro-Machining Center, University of Toledo, Ohio, USA, will, upon the invitation of AIT President, deliver a seminar on "Strategic Planning in Higher Education - A Guide for Leaders". The seminar, to be held on Tuesday, 3 July 2007, from 8.30 a.m. in the Milton E Bender Jr Auditorium, will focus on strategic planning of graduate programs, including new programs, cost analysis, and improvement of existing programs.

New SOM Board Member

Mr. Arun Balakrishnan, new Chairman & Managing Director of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), India, accepted an invitation to serve on AIT's School of Management Board. Mr. B M Lal, former HPCL Chairman & Managing Director, who retired in March 2007, continues to serve as an SOM Board member.

AIT and Kathmandu University Collaborate on Research and Degree Programs

AIT and Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal, are exploring the possibilities of collaborations in joint research programs particularly in the areas of technology management, environmental engineering and other areas where there is a need for R&D; that could contribute to Nepal's development.
