AIT delegation participates in the First International Conference on Natural Disaster Management and Rehabilitation
An AIT delegation comprising of faculty members Dr. Nitin Kumar Tripathi, Dr. Kiyoshi Honda, Dr. Pennung Warnitchai, and Mr. Jothiganesh Sundaram, joined by representatives from the Embassy of Iran, and the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), Thailand participated in the 'First International Conference on Natural Disaster Management and Rehabilitation' held in Esfahan, Iran, during 7-10 May 2007. Around 500 delegates participated in the event which was inaugurated and addressed by the Mayor; Vice Minister for Disaster and Crisis Management; Chairman, Iran Space Agency and Vice Minister for Science and Technology, along with many high-ranking officials.
The AIT delegation was invited by Dr. Amir Mehmoodzadeh, CEO, Sheikh-e-Sazan Co. with whom AIT has recently signed an MoU with the related costs for the delegation also borne by Sheikh-e-Sazan Co. AIT is launching 3 new professional doctoral programs with Sheikh-e-Sazan Co. including 1 on geo-informatics with 15 students starting from January 2007.
Invited by the Governor of Esfahan, AIT and Sheikh-e-Sazan Co. will also be jointly submitting a proposal for a large project on earthquake/disaster preparedness using GIS.
The Vice Minister of Science and Technology and Chairman of Iran Space Agency has accepted AIT President's invitation to visit to AIT and there is strong interest to partner AIT in training and development of research projects for Iranian scientists in the field of geo-informatics.
