On 22 May 2007,  AIT entered into a partnership agreement with the Ceylinco Education 
Group (CEG), Sri Lanka, after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding which was 
participated by Mr. Jagath Alwis, Deputy Chairman, CEG. CEG is a member of the largest 
and highly respected and diversified group of companies known as Ceylinco Consolidated. 
The companies under CEG deliver undergraduate / post graduate degree programs jointly 
with reputed international universities and certificates and also diploma programs of 
their own.
    The MoU provides higher education opportunities for candidates from the Sri Lankan 
industry, government ministries etc. who are looking to pursue their master’s degree in 
the field of Food Engineering and Bio Process Technology (FEBT) program at AIT. CEG under 
this MoU for the August 2007 and January 2008 intakes will market the FEBT programs in 
Sri Lanka and send a minimum of two candidates in each intake to AIT, wherein the 
candidates will pay the full AIT tuition rate. In the second, third and fourth year of 
the MoU, if a minimum number of students are recruited then a part of the academic course 
work will be offered in Colombo through the CEG campus.
    Discussions were also held between with the Deputy Chairman CEG to discuss the 
possibility of using CEG and its vast network of contacts in establishing the AIT Centre 
in Sri Lanka. Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Fundraising Campaign Director, was assigned by AIT 
President to actively pursue this centre concept with CEG, which could be in the form of 
a tripartite agreement between AIT, CEG and the Sri Lankan Government.
 Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein, Vice-President for Development and Resources, Professor S. K. 
Rakshit, Vice President for Research, Professor S. Kumar, Dean SERD, and Mr. Sanjeev, 
play important role in this initiative.
