AIT Administration and HEC Pakistan Participants Discuss Ways to Strengthen Collaboration with HEC

On 31 May, AIT President Said Irandoust, together with Prof. S. Kumar, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development and Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director, AIT Extension, met with Ms. Noor Amana Malik, Director General, and Mr. Frida Hussain, Director, Learning Innovations Division, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, discussing various ways in which we could further strengthen our collaboration with HEC.

Ms. Malik and Mr. Hussain were at AIT participating the 'Good Governance in Universities in the 21st Century' workshop and study visit.

Prof. Sudip K. Rakshit, Vice President Research AIT and Mr. Jean-Philippe Thouard, AIT French cooperation coordinator represented AIT at the launching seminar of the French Bio-Asia Programme. The program is a new regional programme of the French cooperation established to support joint research and innovation between France and Asia in the field of natural substances.

AIT to partner with IUCN on Coastal Zone Management Project

AIT to partner with IUCN on Coastal Zone Management Project

AIT will enter into a contract with the World Conservation Union (IUCN) for the implementation of a Coastal Zone Management project which will include 'National capacity and training needs assessment for different stakeholder groups in order to identify gaps, needs, strengths and opportunities for building capacity in integrated coastal zone management'. The value of the present project is US$160,250 and will cover Indonesia, Sri Lanka , India, Maldives, Thailand and , Seychelles - countries which were hit by the tsunami in this part of the world.

AIT President Said Irandoust with Professor Vilas Wuwongse, Vice President for External Relations, met with Mr. Mitsuru Myochin, Principal Deputy Director, First Country Assistance Planning Division International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan and Mr. Daisuke Okabe, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan to Thailand, on 29 May 2007, to further discuss the feedback from the Government of Japan on the draft AIT Charter.

26 June: The First Steering Committee Meeting of the Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign

Under the approval of AIT President Said Irandoust, the first Steering Committee meeting of the Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign (GJFC) will take place on 26 June 2007. According to AIT President, the primary task of the Steering Committee members is to provide ideas and suggestions, cautions on fundraising from Schools, as well as from faculty, staff and community at large to the GJFC. The steering Committee would also serve to act as a mechanism to ensure awareness, internal ownership, wide involvement and popularity and commitment on the part of all AITians towards the GJFC.
