AIT-Afghanistan Task Force update

The AIT-Afghanistan Task Force agreed to hold two initial workshops in Afghanistan, one each in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province, targeting the Kabul Polytechnic University (KPU) and the University of Balkh (UoB). The objectives of the workshop are to provide an opportunity for KPU and UoB faculty members to interact with AIT faculty, and to conduct a needs assessment of KPU and UoB in order to determine their capacity building capability, including curriculum and human resources development needs.

Following the AIT visit to Kabul, KPU and UoB representatives will also be invited to visit AIT for two separate workshops organized to finalize the joint proposals to be submitted to the World Bank through the Ministry of Higher Education in Afghanistan.

In order to explore the possibility of partnerships with AIT, an additional workshop is planned for Kabul targeting participants from all the six universities selected under the World Bank project on 'Strengthening Higher Education Program.'

AIT alumnus Dr. Venkatesh Sundararaman, Economist, South Asia Region, Human Development Sector, World Bank, and Dr. Suman Kr. Karna, Urban Development Advisor, UN-HABITAT, Afghanistan, offered their strong supports for AIT's planned initiatives in Afghanistan.
