On 18 July, AIT President Said Irandoust, chaired the AIT-Afghanistan Task Force meeting which was attended by the Schools, AIT Extension representatives and External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO) staff, namely Dr. S. Guha, Dr. Animesh Dutta (for Dr. Mithulananthan), Dr. S. Singh, Dr. Pritam Shrestha and Ms. Naina Shakya.

Congratulations to an AIT alumnus from Nepal, Mr. Babu Ram Shrestha (Spring Program 91'), who has been appointed as the Executive Director of the Local Development Training Academy (LDTA) in Nepal.

LDTA is an autonomous institution formed with the aim of promoting local development by enhancing managerial and administrative capacities of institutions (governments) such as village development committees (VDCs), municipalities and district development committees (DDCs). It also provides them with inputs to formulate policy guidelines most conducive to local development and for functional local governance.

AIT President meets famous Israeli film director

AIT President Said Irandoust recently attended a brunch with world renowned Israeli film director Mr. Amos Gitai, at the invitation of H.E. Ambassador Yael Rubinestein of Israel. The brunch was followed by the screening of Mr. Gitai's movie Free Zone, which is an entry from Israel at the ongoing Bangkok International Film Festival 2007.

President Irandoust also met with some of the organizers of the Bangkok International Film Festival 2007, and put forward a proposal to consider AIT as a venue for screening of international movies as part of such events.

Please be informed that any non-Thai baby born in Thailand does not need a 'Permit of Stay' stamp on his/her passport for staying in Thailand, until his/her first exit from Thailand. On his/her first exit from Thailand, the parents must ensure that he/she gets a
Non-Immigrant visa from the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate in his/her home country before coming back to Thailand.

A Call for 'Cycle Two' Pre-Proposals

The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), invites all interested parties to develop pre-proposals on any of the following ideas for Challenge Programs:

climate change, agriculture and food security;
high-value crops (fruits and vegetables); and
combating desertification (dryland degradation).

The CGIAR invites all interested parties to submit pre-proposals (with a maximum length of 15 pages) on any of these topics.
