AIT and Prospect Burma will strengthen the mutual collaboration in helping Myanmar students to obtain advanced education at AIT. The discussion of ways to achieve this took place during the visit of Ms. Patricia Herbert, Vice Chair of Prospect Burma, U.K. to AIT on 25 January 2007.

Ms. Herbert stressed the importance of assisting students who would eventually return to Myanmar to assist in the country’s development process which is the ultimate goal of Prospect Burma. She also expressed Prospect Burma’s satisfaction in learning that most Myanmar graduates returned to Myanmar after completing their studies at AIT. The possibility of AIT partnering with Prospect Burma in seeking fund from other prospect UK donors was also discussed and seen as a highly potential initiative to bring more Myanmar students to AIT.

Over the past 10 years Prospect Burma has provided financial support to AIT directed at students from Myanmar in the form of research grants and annual scholarships through its regular scholarship program. Starting from 2000, the joint AIT-Prospect Burma scholarship has been provided as a full scholarship for deserving Myanmar students to attend a master’s program at AIT. To date, 5 Myanmar students have been awarded with this scholarship. This year, Prospect Burma is also inviting Myanmar students to apply the David Gore-Booth Scholarship, a new full scholarship program which has just been made available.
