The AIT President attended a signing ceremony held at Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works (MPW) on 11 September, which was witnessed by H.E. Dr. Ir. Djoko Kirmanto, Indonesia’s Minister of Public Works. Proffesor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET), and Dr. Kunnawee Kanitpong, Transportation Engineering (TRE) Field Coordinator and Coordinator for Promotions and Alumni Relations, as well as Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Coordinator-Promotions and Alumni Relations, for the External Relations and Cooperation Office (ERCO), also participated in the event.
The following three documents were signed for the AIT–Universitas Gadja Mada (UGM) Dual Master’s Degree Program in Transportation Engineering:
• AIT–UGM general MoU, signed by AIT President Said Irandoust and UGM Rector, represented by Prof. Dr. Ir. Indarto, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, UGM.
• AIT–UGM MoA for Dual Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering, signed by Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean SET, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Indarto, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, UGM, and witnessed by AIT Center in Indonesia (AITCI) Director, Dr. Sugimin Pranoto, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, Transportation Engineering and System, Faculty of Engineering, UGM.
• AITCI–SET internal agreement, signed by AITCI Director, Dr. Sugimin Pranoto, and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean SET, witnessed by H.E. Ir. Djoko Kirmanto, Indonesia’s Minister of Public Works, and AIT President Said Irandoust.
During the event, President Irandoust had an opportunity to formally handover AIT’s expression of interest to partner with Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works on the upcoming deep tunnel projects, as well as submit a proposal to receive support from the Ministry for the further strengthening of AITCI. There was also a press conference in connection with the event, and the AIT delegation was interviewed by Indonesian state television channel TVRI.
Later on 12 September, an AIT delegation comprised of Dr. Kunnawee Kanitpon and Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, accompanied by Dr. Sugimin Pranoto, AITCI Director; Ir. Achjar Riadi, AITCI Deputy Director-Academic and Development; and Ir. Yaya Supriyatna Head of Compentency and Curriculum Professionalism, CPTCD/CHRDA/MPW, visited the UGM Rector’s Office and met UGM officials headed by Ms. Ambawati, Deputy to Head, Office of International Affairs, UGM.
The pair also made presentations at a promotional AIT Day seminar held at MSTT, UGM. At this event, the two explained all about AIT and its academic programs, as well as about AITCI and its programs. Following this presentation, a question and answer session ensued, and many participants were interested AIT’s academic facilities, especially its library and online system.
The AITCI team also met with officials from Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY) and officials from MSTT, UGM separately, discussing about future collaboration with respective universities.
