Fourteen participants from Iran attended a short training course on "Remote Sensing and GIS for Development" conducted by Dr. Nitin K. Tripathi and Visiting Associate Professor Dr. Saied Pirasteh from Remote Sensing & GIS field of study, School of Engineering and Technology, from 5-12 February 2007. The participants were mid-career professionals from academic institutions, organizations of engineering associations and the mayor's offices from different cities in Iran.
Several participants appreciated the academic environment of AIT and expressed their willingness to join the doctoral program if it is designed to allow research in their parent organization under the joint supervision of an advisor from AIT and one from Iran approved by AIT. The participants found the training program very useful and
suggested that more of such courses and workshop be organized. Another such training program will be conducted in August 2007.
The event was also participated by Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President; Mr. Esmaeil Tekyeh Sadat, Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative to ESCAP; and Mr. Masoud Mortazavi, Counsellor, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mr. Sadat commended the initiative from AIT and expressed full support from the Iranian Embassy in further enhancing educational cooperation with AIT. In this context the potential for collaboration with Khurramshahr University of Marine Sciences and Technology, Research and Consulting Company of Shakes-Sazan, Esfahan, Iran is being explored.
