AIT’s cyber forensics recognized

During the "Underground Economy" workshop recently organized by AIT's Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab), AIT President Said Irandoust along with Dr. Naveed Anwar met with Mr. Ammar Jaffri, Project Director in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan, who is one of the workshop's resource persons. Mr. Jaffri suggested that AIT, on account of its available facilities and established reputation, should explore the possibility of establishing special programs related to forensics in general and cyber forensics in particular, with special emphasis on training and certification for Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), general information security, physical security, and forensics and related disciplines. Mr. Jaffri explained that these fields are in high demand at this time, and there are not many institutions offering these specializations and certifications in this region.

Mr. Jaffri, who has extensive international exposure, training and contacts in these areas, offered to assist in this venture, especially in establishing networks, connections, and identifying target groups such as law enforcement agencies, financial institutions and insurance underwriters. In particular, he referred to a Pakistan-based, NASDAQ-listed company with offices in more than 30 countries, involved in these areas as a possible partner with AIT in this venture.

In a follow-up informal meeting with Dr. Naveed Anwar, Mr. Jaffri elaborated on some of the possible modalities and invited an AIT team to visit Pakistan to further explore the possibilities and venture opportunities with private sector organizations, especially with reference to the establishment of an AIT Center in Pakistan.
