A special talk on "Energy after Oil" was recently delivered by Lord Ronald Oxburgh KBE at AIT on 24 September 2007. Lord Oxburgh is a very distinguished academician with extensive experience in the private sector, and was trained as a geologist/geophysicist (Oxford & Princeton). He is the former Rector of Imperial College (UK) and was Chairman of Shell. Lord Oxburgh also served as a member in the former Academic Advisory Panel of the AIT Board of Trustees.
In his presentation, Lord Oxburgh provided a global scenario on the future of energy, some of the limitations and challenges, highlights of some of the innovative approaches being taken and, more importantly, how all of us as individuals can help contribute in a collective manner in the ongoing efforts to attain a low carbon world. Lord Oxburgh cited complacency as being a threat.
During the event, AIT also welcomed a delegation from the Asian University of Science and Technology (AUST), who co-organized this event with AIT, as well as representatives from several oil industries based in Thailand. Dr. Viphandh Roengpithya, President and Vice Chancellor of AUST, played an important role in this initiative.
