New AIT Charter approved

The final version of the AIT Charter, which was earlier approved by the AIT Board of Trustees, has been officially submitted by Dr. Tej Bunnag, Chairman of the Board, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand. AIT President Said Irandoust, on behalf of AIT, expresses appreciation and gratitude to all AIT partners for their continued and strong support to the Institute, and to AIT Board Chairman, for the instrumental role he has played in the entire process.

Work on the new AIT Charter was initiated under the helm of H.E. Mr. Anand Panyarachun, former Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, in 2004. It has been a very long process involving extensive review by the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees of AIT, as well as several consultations between trustees and their respective home governments. AIT is most grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, for the advice, support and guidance which it has extended to AIT throughout the process.

An AIT delegation headed by the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Tej Bunnag, including the Vice Chairpersons of the Board, Vice President for External Relations, Professor Vilas Wuwongse, and AIT President Said Irandoust paid a visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, on 11 October 2007. They consulted with the Ministry on the further steps that would now be taken on the part of the Ministry and how best AIT could expedite the process of AIT attaining international status.

The Institute is confident that, under a new Charter that is attuned to the changing needs of the region and higher learning, AIT will be in a much stronger position to impart its mandate of human resources and capacity building, together with its other international partners.
