On 25 October 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust together with Professor Peter Haddawy, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Professor Nazrul Islam, and Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director AIT Extension met with Mr. Ajai Randhawa, who is associated with the Mountbatten Internship Programme: http://www.mountbatten.org/
The American International College (AIC) / Mountbatten MBA is an attempt to redress what many see as a critical problem in business education - the reduction in opportunities for future business leaders to live and learn abroad. It gives young American graduates the opportunity to live and study in the UK and learn about its institutions, economic development and business ethos through the lens of the European workplace. Likewise, from 2008, British and other foreign students/ interns, can take their Mountbatten Year in New York and follow a parallel course of study, with the emphasis on American business practice. The Mountbatten Year provides the foundation for the MBA degree and then enables the student to complete her/his studies full-time in Asia, living in Bangkok for a semester and studying Chinese, Indian and South-East Asian approaches to business. Seminars and courses in Bangkok will be taught by a team of qualified professors and business leaders selected from top institutions and companies in the region.

Mr. Ajai is interested in exploring the possibility of AIT hosting the 4-month stay of the participants from the US and UK. The first two batches starting from August 2008 will come from the US, with students from UK to follow later. The curriculum and degree would be that of AIC. They are also interested in exploring the possibility of AIT delivering some of the course content. The AIT Extension will serve as the focal unit for this partnership. This initiative would provide internship opportunities for AIT students in New York, and also increase the internationality of AIT wherein AIC / Mountbatten students could interact with Asian students. Some of the students from US and UK may later on also be interested in pursuing their doctoral studies at AIT. They would also serve as ambassadors for AIT in the US and UK.
