AIT President Said Irandoust on 30 October 2007 met with Professor Chongrak Polprasert and Dr. Kim Oanh and was briefed on their recent visit to Ching Shiu University, Taiwan to discuss cooperation on dioxin analysis. Dioxin analysis is a part of the activities within the AIT-SINTEF “Hazardous Chemical Management”, which involves Thailand and Vietnam. They also met with CNU representatives to discuss a concept paper on “International AIT-Taiwan dual master’s degree program” to be started first by EEM.
During the discussions with the AIT President, Prof. Chongrak and Dr. Kim Oanh, proposed the establishment of a “
Center of Excellence on hazardous chemical management” for the region, which would be based at AIT. Such a center would be able to mobilize resources for research and for providing degrees (professional master's program) and non-degree trainings on this issue of growing importance in the region. The international workshop “hazardous chemical management” to be organized by the AIT-SINTEF project from 10-14 December 2007 could be used as a forum to further discuss this concept.
