The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand sent an official communication on 30 October 2007 to all of AIT's partners currently on the Board, inviting further responses on the Board approved new AIT Charter. The Ministry will subsequently convene a meeting on 17 December 2007 to formally adopt the Charter, to which current partner countries and international entities, as well as new and prospective members, currently not on the Board, will also be invited to take part.
Once the new AIT Charter is adopted, it would then pave the way for AIT to become a full-fledged inter-governmental organization and in the process attain formal international status. On behalf of the Institute, AIT President Said Irandoust expresses AIT's most grateful appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, for its strong support and instrumental role in this important process, which will further strengthen the long term position of AIT. He quoted (below) some excerpts from the recent letter which has been sent by the Ministry to our partners, highlighting AIT's role and contribution to the region:
“For 48 years, the AIT has been a leading regional institution of higher learning, offering state of the art in the fields of education, research and training in technology, management and societal development. The rich multicultural environment at the AIT has also contributed to closer academic relations between Asia and the other regions as well as strengthened ties of friendship and goodwill among the AIT's graduates. In view of the foregoing, the Royal Thai Government, as the host of the AIT headquarters, has further the honour to express its appreciation to all members for their commitment and contribution to AIT. In order to strengthen the AIT's capacities to continue its mission in the 21st century, the AIT Board of Trustees has agreed that a new AIT Charter should be adopted for the AIT to attain international status.”
