AIT-AITAA Collaborative Workshop: For Homecoming 2009

The AIT-AITAA Collaborative Workshop for Homecoming 2009 was held on 7 December 2007. This event was organized jointly by the Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign and the AITAA Mother Chapter. AIT President Said Irandoust along with General Dr. Boonsrang Niumpradit, President of the AITAA Alumni Association Mother Chapter; Dr. Chainarong Na-Lamphun, former President of AITAA, President's of the National Chapters, GJFC Internal Steering Committee members, and other alumni representatives attended the workshop.

Landmark “Doing Business in Africa” Workshop for AIT and Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

As part of its new Asia-Africa Initiative, from 3-4 December 2007, AIT organized a workshop on the topic “Doing Business in Africa” in Bangkok, which was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Thailand. Senior officials from the Ministry and other related government agencies in Thailand, ambassadors from several of the African nations, leaders of international organizations such as the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and the African Development Bank, academia, leaders from industry and finance discussed how business relations could be further strengthened for the mutual benefit of Africa and Thailand.

“Cities must now lead the climate change agenda”

Joining representatives of over 180 countries together with observers from intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations, and the media, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) last week organized, along with Global Carbon Project (GCP) and National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), an official side-event at the United Nations Climate Change Conference being held in Bali, Indonesia

The two-week meeting from 3-14 December included sessions of the Conference of the Parties COP 13 / CMP3 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), its subsidiary bodies, as well as the Meeting of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol.

Seminar on Hydroinformatics and its applications

AIT’s Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign (GJFC) and the Water Engineering and Management (WEM) Field of Study at the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) jointly organized a seminar on Hydroinformatics and its applications on 4 December 2007. It was fourth in the series of water seminars conducted by leading figures in the field of water since 2006. WEM Field of Study Coordinator, Dr. Mukand S. Babel, welcomed all the participants and Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein, AIT Vice President for Development and Resources, delivered the introductory remarks that explained the relevance of the Institute’s strategic development plan, its six thematic areas and the water seminar series.

10-14 December: Capacity Strengthening on Hazardous Chemicals Management

The regional workshop on hazardous chemicals management, organized by AIT, the Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research of Norway (SINTEF) and the Pollution Control Department of Thailand, will be held at the AIT Conference Center during December 10-14, 2007. This regional workshop is part of the project “Capacity Strengthening on Hazardous Chemicals Management”, sponsored by the Norwegian government and being undertaken jointly by AIT and SINTEF. The workshop goals is to contribute to the reduction and eradication of health and environmental risks hosted by improper hazardous chemicals management, including awareness raising and capacity strengthening.

6-7 December: Workshop on Food Safety and Market Access

The Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) FoS will hold workshop on “Food safety and market access for small-scale shrimp farmers” on 6-7 December 2007 at the AIT conference Center. The workshop is a planned activity of shrimp Farm BMPs project co-funded by the EU Thailand Economic Co-operation Small Projects Facility, and is being organized jointly with the Networks of Aquaculture Centers in Asia-Pacific (NACA), Bangkok.
