AIT Administration and HEC Pakistan Participants Discuss Ways to Strengthen Collaboration with HEC

On 31 May, AIT President Said Irandoust, together with Prof. S. Kumar, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development and Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director, AIT Extension, met with Ms. Noor Amana Malik, Director General, and Mr. Frida Hussain, Director, Learning Innovations Division, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, discussing various ways in which we could further strengthen our collaboration with HEC.

Ms. Malik and Mr. Hussain were at AIT participating the 'Good Governance in Universities in the 21st Century' workshop and study visit.

Thai Kajima Co., Ltd. Recruiting AIT Civil Engineering Graduates

Thai Kajima Co. Ltd. is interested in recruiting AIT graduates in the civil engineering field of study, and will possibly offer internship, following the recent meeting of AIT President Said Irandoust with Mr. Siego Takahashi, President, Thai Kajima Co. Ltd.

Doctoral comprehensive examinations scheduled
Ms. Kannapa Pongponrat (RRP028076), a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Regional and Rural Development Planning field of study, School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) will have her comprehensive examination on Wednesday, 4 July 2007, 10:00 a.m. in Room S101, SERD Building.

26 June: The First Steering Committee Meeting of the Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign

Under the approval of AIT President Said Irandoust, the first Steering Committee meeting of the Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign (GJFC) will take place on 26 June 2007. According to AIT President, the primary task of the Steering Committee members is to provide ideas and suggestions, cautions on fundraising from Schools, as well as from faculty, staff and community at large to the GJFC. The steering Committee would also serve to act as a mechanism to ensure awareness, internal ownership, wide involvement and popularity and commitment on the part of all AITians towards the GJFC.

AIT launches online distance education program in GIS in cooperation with University of Salzburg, Austria
AIT recently signed a MoA with the University of Salzburg, Austria to launch a two year masters program and one year professional diploma in GIS under the UNIGIS worldwide program.

AIT enters into a partnership agreement with Ceylinco Education Group
On 22 May 2007, AIT entered into a partnership agreement with the Ceylinco Education Group (CEG), Sri Lanka, after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding which was participated by Mr. Jagath Alwis, Deputy Chairman, CEG. CEG is a member of the largest and highly respected and diversified group of companies known as Ceylinco Consolidated.

The School of Management held the second meeting of the School Board on 24 May 2007. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Narayana N. R. Murthy, Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor, Infosys, India and attended by external members Mr. John W. Hancock, Honorary Chairman and Senior Advisor, Baker and Mckenzie Co. Ltd.

AIT delegation participates in the First International Conference on Natural Disaster Management and Rehabilitation

An AIT delegation comprising of faculty members Dr. Nitin Kumar Tripathi, Dr. Kiyoshi Honda, Dr. Pennung Warnitchai, and Mr. Jothiganesh Sundaram, joined by representatives from the Embassy of Iran, and the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), Thailand participated in the 'First International Conference on Natural Disaster Management and Rehabilitation' held in Esfahan, Iran, during 7-10 May 2007. Around 500 delegates participated in the event which was inaugurated and addressed by the Mayor; Vice Minister for Disaster and Crisis Management; Chairman, Iran Space Agency and Vice Minister for Science and Technology, along with many high-ranking officials.

An AIT alumnus appointed as a Senior Research Economist at the World Bank

Dr. Govinda Timilsina, an AIT alumnus, and advisee of Prof. Ram M. Shrestha, has recently joined the Development Research Group (DEG) of the World Bank in Washington, DC, as a Senior Research Economist.
