Luang Prabang Region Sustainable Tourism Project
The first phase of a project under a feasibility study for the conservation of biodiversity and the development of sustainable tourism in the Luang Prabang town region with a focus on the Nam Khan river valley, which is financed by the French cooperation, will involve AIT in the transfer of funds according to AIT President Said Irandoust and Dr. Vincent Rotgé, Director of the International Rivers and Heritage Institute, who met May 15 2007.
AIT will be fully integrated into the subsequent phases of the project, particularly in the area of sustainable tourism development which is one of the academic programs planned to be developed.
Joint Activities with New Hampshire Commercial Consul to Asia
AIT and the New Hampshire International Trade Resource Center (NHITRC) is considering the possibility of conducting joint activities through exchange of information, research and development projects, development of cross-marketing and cross-investment projects, as well as supporting each other in the organization of meetings, trade missions, conferences, symposia or seminars aimed at promoting sustainable development technology industries.
Funding for Research at Deakin University for Top AIT Students
Deakin University, through its projects with industry, will fully fund a few most outstanding students in relevant fields to spend up to 3 months doing their research at Deakin's advanced research centres in biotechnology and materials and fiber innovation.
Vice President Haddawy on Innovation and Higher Education
Prof. Peter Haddawy, Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented the paper 'Fostering Innovation in Higher Education' co-authored with Dr. Barbara Igel on May 10 at the 2007 Conference of the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning, held in Hong Kong.
AIT and Ceylinco Education Group, Sri Lanka to collaborate
On 22 May 2007 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by AIT President Prof Said Irandoust and Mr Jagath Alwis, Deputy Chairman Ceylinco Education Group (CEG), Sri Lanka, to provide higher education opportunities for candidates from Sri Lankan industry, government ministries etc.
Norwegian-AIT Annual Consultation Meeting
A delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) met in consultation with AIT on 10 May 2007 and expressed great satisfaction with AIT’s program activities towards securing the goals of sustainable environment, human rights and gender, and poverty alleviation.
