IDRC Call for Concept Notes for Action Research on 'Value Chains and the Rural Poor in Disadvantaged Regions'
International Development Research Centre invites researchers, civil society and entrepreneurs to submit applications for four action research projects under the theme of ?value chains and the rural poor in disadvantaged regions.
2007 Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP) Competition
Submissions are welcome for the Global Development Network's annual competition for the Most Innovative Development Project, which carries prizes in cash and travel of over US $50,000! The finalists will present their proposals at GDN's Annual Global Development Conference in Brisbane, Australia in January 2008. Submissions are accepted for an ongoing development project implemented in a developing or transition country.

Taiwan firm to market SOM's DBA program
ST International Co. Ltd. (www.stcolleges.com), Taiwan, will assist AIT in marketing the Doctor of Business Administration program offered by the AIT School of Management (SOM). This was announced following a meeting between Mr. Stephen B. W. Sim, CEO of ST International Co. and AIT President Said Irandoust on 26 April.
AIT and Pearl Business School jointly offer DBA program
On 30 April 2007, AIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Pearl School of Business (PSB), India, to offer a doctoral degree in business administration in India which is expected to start at the beginning of July this year.
Obituary Prof. Fumio Nishino
Prof. Fumio Nishino, who enthusiastically served the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Tokyo for nearly 40 years and who served as Professor and Vice President for Academic Affairs of the Asian Institute of Technology from 1984-86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, 6 May 2007 at the age of 71 years old.
The School of Management is going to organize a seminar on "A Preview of the Economics of Knowledge" on Thursday, 10 May 2007, 11:00 a.m. in Room 108.
The speaker will be Professor Martin J. Beckmann, emeritus professor of Economic, Brown University in Providence, RI, USA and emeritus professor of Applied Mathematics, Technical University of Munich, Germany.
South African Ambassador sees prospects for AIT's partnership with South Africa
During his visit to AIT on 24 April 2007, H.E. Ms. Pearl Nomvume Magaqa, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa, expressed keen interest on the part of the South African Government to send students to this part of the region in order to broaden their international exposure and experience.
Iranian Ambassador assures financial commitment to AIT
The Ambassador of Iran, H.E. Mr. Mohsen Pak Aein declared the interest on the part of the Iranian Government to AIT's proposed new Charter and also provided assurances of a financial commitment during the meeting with AIT President Said Irandoust and Vice President for Development Ni Ni Thein in Bangkok on 26 April 2007. The Ambassador was earlier briefed by AIT President and Vice President for Development about some recent developments and progress on the new AIT Charter.
