SEA-UEMA Project and Hue City to organize training on participatory monitoring and evaluation of UEM projects

The Asian Institute of Technology, through the SEA-UEMA Project, and the Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Hue City, will jointly organize the 'Training Program on Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation of Solid Waste and Water & Sanitation Projects' in Hue, Vietnam on March 8-9, 2007.

The training will enable participants from government and non-government organizations gain a better understanding of the approaches, methods and practices used in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of urban environmental projects, especially on solid waste (SW) and water and sanitation (WS), in Hue City, Vietnam.

SEA-UEMA Project, MUST Co-organize Training on UAQM in KL

The Asian Institute of Technology, through the SEA-UEMA Project, and the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST), will jointly conduct the 'Professional Training on Urban Air Quality Management: Policy and Tools for Integrated Assessment' on March 26-29, 2007 at the Grand Season's Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Speck Systems, India employees to further their master’s studies in RS&GIS
A Memoradum of Understanding between AIT and Speck Systems Ltd. (SSL), Hyderabad, India., was signed during a one-day visit to India by Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, on 19 February 2007. The MoU covers the agreement that SSL will sponsor two employees for studies/research per year (starting from the August 2007 intake), leading to a master’s degree in Remote Sensing & Geographic Information Systems (RS&GIS) at AIT. The students under this agreement will spend two semesters at AIT and two semesters thesis work at Speck.

Dual degree student participation marks AIT – TSF’s presence in Mozambique operation
Following the heavy floods which have been affecting the regions of Tete, Manica, Sofala and Zambezia for several weeks, the situation in Mozambique has deteriorated significantly over the recent days.

Comments Requested for Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Knowledge Hub (3RKH) Project Logo
The project team comprising of ADB, UNEP, UNESCAP, and AIT recently held a logo competition for the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Knowledge Hub (3RKH) project. The top 3 short-listed logos (from 50 entries) as shown above were selected for the AIT community’s comments.

SET Associate Deans appointed
Upon the recommendation of Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, recently appointed the following associate deans in SET:

Dr. Joydeep Dutta, Associate Dean for New Development: Dr. Dutta will assist the Dean in planning for new areas (the first one is Materials Engineering) and review of all MoUs.

Dr. Nitin Afzulpurkar, Associate Dean for Promotion: Dr. Afzulpurkar will assist the Dean in planning marketing strategies for recruiting students in focus countries including handling of all related promotional documents.

Indian Ambassador visits AIT

H.E. Ms. Vijaya Latha Reddy, Ambassador of India to Thailand and AIT trustee visited AIT on 13 February, and was accompanied by Mr. Abhijit Chakravertty, Counsellor (information and culture). Ambassador Reddy met with members of the administration, Indian faculty, and representatives of the staff and students.

Myanmar promotional trip sets further collaboration

An AIT delegation led by AIT President Said Irandoust and Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein, Vice President for Development and Resources, came back from the Myanmar promotional trip with successful achievements through the AIT Day Seminar and the meetings for collaboration with government agencies, universities, and private sector in Myanmar.
