Japan Science and Technology Agency visits

A delegation of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) led by Mr. Michiaki Ohkubo, Director of Department of International Affairs, visited AIT on 5 February 2008 and met with Professor Vilas Wuwongse, Vice  President, External Relations and others senior AIT administrators. The JST plans to hold a seminar on Appropriate, Promising technologies toward High-level Water Circulation Asian Society: International R&D themes for safety water in Bangkok during 10-11 March 2008 and has invited AIT to be a co-organizer with them. One of the purposes of this seminar is to develop new research ideas for further collaborations among academic institution in Asia. Several water environment experts from Asian Universities including some from AIT will be presenting their research works at this seminar which is coordinated by Professor Shinichiro Ohgaki of The University of Tokyo, Japan and Professor Chongrak Polprasert of AIT. About 40 AIT students will be invited to attend this seminar free of charge. According to Professor Ohgaki, who is also Vice Chairperson of the AIT Board of Trustees, JST is the largest funding agency for science and technology in Japan and is now setting up a new international research funding program on water and environment in which AIT will be a potential partner in this endeavor.
