In agreement intended to provide for world-class higher education
opportunities in India, Dubai and Mauritius, as well as for joint
research activities, AIT recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE)
located in Mysore, India. SJCE is affiliated with Jagadguru Sri
Shivarathreeswara Mahavidyapeetha (JSSMVP), which is a center of
learning in India that guides more than 250 institutions spread
throughout the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Under the MoU signed on 16 June 2008 at AIT, the two parties
agreed to jointly conduct activities such as the organization of
international workshops, seminars and symposia focusing on science and
technological development in
India and the region. The two
partners will also conduct faculty exchange programs and jointly apply
to the Government of India and international organizations to conduct
sponsored research projects.

A key component of the deal involves the development of a Two-Stage
Master’s Program at SJCE, Mysore, a Unified
Bachelor’s-Master’s Program, an Integrated Master’s-Doctoral Program,
and the development of on-line engineering and management
programs. An
AIT Coordination Center will be
launched at the SJCE campus to conduct and monitor all joint activities
of the new partnership. Officials attending the signing ceremony said
the new programs are intended to fill existing gaps in formal degree
education and to capitalize on the new emerging requirements of public
and private enterprises in
India for short-term certificate,
diploma and professional master’s degree programs.

On the same day, Dr. B.G. Sangameshwara, Principal, SJCE, and Dr. S.K.
Prasad, Associate Professor, SJCE, visited AIT’s School of Engineering
and Technology (SET) and met with its Dean, Prof. Worsak
Kanok-Nukulchai, Dr. Noppadol Phien-wej, Associate Dean and Field
Coordinator of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering; Dr.
Seishiro Kibe, Field Coordinator of Remote Sensing & Geographic
Information Systems, Dr. Sutat Weesakul from Water Engineering and
Management and discussed various issues related to the signed MoU. They
also met with Prof. S. Kumar, Dean, School of Environment and Resources
Development, Dr. Kim Oanh and Dr. Mithulananthan. AIT’s Dr. Nitin
Tripathi will work closely with SJCE to implement the signed MoU and
has been designated as the official contact person for this
collaboration.
