The Dean of the School of Engineering & Technology (SET), Prof.
Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai (third from left) and Dr. Joydeep Dutta (right),
Associate Dean, SET and Director of Center of Excellence in
Nanotechnology visited Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg
(Sweden) on 7 July 2008.
Prof. Worsak had an initial meeting with Director of
Internationalization, Dr. Gustavo Perrusquia, and Professor Ake Faldt
to discuss the general structure of the partnership and cooperation
between AIT and Chalmers. It was determined that a structure from which
future exchange of degree students, faculty and research staff can be
accommodated should be explored. The discussion focused on the double
degree program, wherein selected AIT students will study a year at AIT
and another year at Chalmers. A scheme consisting of planned tuition
fee payments from non-European students will also be examined. If this
plan is successful, this official international cooperation will help
in decreasing expenses and thus will possibly allow Chalmers to waive
the tuition for AIT’s students. For self supporting students, such as
Thai students, the second year tuition will be allocated for living
expenses in Chalmers. A more refined modality is currently being
studied based on similar double degree program Chalmers plans to begin
with a Chinese university. It was agreed that faculty members in all
fields of the two universities are encouraged to begin working together
to identify other potential areas for implementation of the Cooperation
Agreement.
The afternoon discussions focused more on technical topics.
Professor Per Jacobsson of Applied Physics, Professor Imre Pazsit
of Nuclear Engineering, and Professor Per Rudquist of Microtechnology
and Nanoscience joined the meeting in the afternoon.
Key points of the meeting consisted of the finalization of the
international cooperation agreement, review and analysis of the
teaching staff exchange programme and a new initiative involving
"Visiting Non-degree Student Activities” and “Guest Students” on
structuring the double degree program between AIT and Chalmers.
