On 18-23 June 2008, a delegation from the Asian Institute of
Technology (AIT) visited Pakistan for future collaboration.

The objective of the visit was to promote AIT and explore long term
collboration in Pakistan. The cities visited were Lahore, Karachi and
Islamabad.

The delegation was comprised of President Said Irandoust, Dr. Naveed
Anwar (Associate Director of ACECOMS), Ms. Naina Shakya (Coordinator-
Partner Relations & Development of the External Relations and
Communications Office).

During the trip, a total of ten academic institutions were visited.
Out of the ten, seven signed MoUs with AIT.

Five personnel have confirmed scholarships for the August 2008 intake.
The other applications are currently being studied. More applications
for graduate study are expected to be received by AIT by
August/September 2008.

It was determined that the HEC and all associated academic
institutions in Pakistan are currently focusing all available
scholarships for doctoral degree programs. AIT has been identified as a
priority institute for Pakistani faculty due to various reasons
including proven academic and research excellence, and lower tuition
and living costs.

There will be further visits from AIT faculty in this region as part
of the institute's mission to engage and develop highly qualified and
committed professionals who play leading roles in the region's
sustainable development and its integration into the global
economy.
