Vietnamese Ministries receive AIT president and vice president

On 20 August 2008, Professor Said Irandoust, President of the Asian
Institute of Technology (AIT), along with Professor Vilas Wuwongse,
Vice President for External Relations, and Acting Director of the
AIT
Center in Vietnam (AITCV), met with
high-ranking officials of the
Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), and Ministry of Foreign
Affairs (MOFA) Vietnam.

At MOET Vietnam, the AIT officials met with H.E. Professor Dr. Phan Vu
Luan, Vice Minister of MOET, and discussed the request by MOET to
relocate AIT's center from its current premises and requested the
Ministry's support and assistance in finding a new location to host
AITCV. Officials said that the options being considered are for AITCV
to be housed in one of AIT's current partner universities based in
Hanoi; in a new private university with whom AIT will be collaborating;
and also the option of AIT securing its own premises.

In Vietnam the AIT delegates also met with H.E. Dao Viet Trung, Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was updated on the recent developments
at AIT, in particular the new AIT Charter. The Deputy Minister has
assured the AIT delegates of the Ministry's continued support in
AIT
related activities, and also strong support for the new AIT
Charter.
