Participation in Training Program Welcome Dinner

On 16 September, AIT President Said Irandoust attended
the welcome dinner for the training program on "Integrated Coastal Zone
Planning and Management using Geoinformation Technologies" (15-26
September 2008) organized by Dr. Nitin K.
Tripathi, RS&GIS field of study, School of Engineering and
Technology. AIT President was accompanied by Professor Peter
Haddawy,
Vice President for Academic Affairs and other colleagues
Dr. Kiyoshi Honda, Dr. Dhirendra Thakur, and Dr. Yusif
Ali Hussin
(ITC Netherlands).

The training program attracted 19 participants from Japan, Vietnam,
Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Iraq and Nigeria. The course was
designed for integrated development of coastal zones keeping in
consideration of preserving mangroves, benthic habitats (coral, sea
grass, wetlands) and risk zonation for Tsunami preparedness. Fourteen
resource persons including 3 teaching assistants facilitated the 2-week
training program.

Participants from India and Iraq expressed their strong desire for more
of such courses and joint projects with AIT.
