Professor Vilas Wuwongse, AIT Vice President for
External Relations, accepted the invitation by the Commission on Higher
Education, Thai Ministry of Education, to join the delegation for the
E-Learning Expo Korea 2008 which transpired in Seoul early September.
The expo ran from 9 to 11 September 2008. AIT demonstrated a hybrid
library system which combined digital and library management systems.
This was developed under the GMSARN project. Professor Vilas was
introduced to Prof. Duk-Hoon Kwak, President, and
other senior staff of Korea Education and Research Information Service
(KERIS). KERIS is a leading research institute in e-learning Possible
partnerships with AIT and KERIS in the field of e-learning was
discussed.

Professor Vilas also visited the Korea International Cooperation Agency
(KOICA) on 11 September and met with Mr. See-Jeong
Chang, Vice President, Mr. Yun-Gil Jeong,
Director of Regional Team I, and Ms Mira Ko, Assistant
Manager of Regional Team I. Although KOICA emphasizes more on bilateral
relations which places the institute in a new donor country, Vice
President Chang agreed to consider the revival of the secondment of
Korean faculty to AIT. Prof. Vilas also visited Hanyang University and
as Hanyang Cyber University. AIT recently accepted exchange students
from Hanyang University. Hanyang Cyber University is the top one cyber
university in Korea with over 20,000 enrolled undergraduate
students.
