AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust visited
the NanoThailand
Symposium 2008 with Vice President for Research, Prof. S. K.
Rakshit. Prof. Vilas Wuwongse, Vice President for External Relations
also
visited the exhibition on the morning of the November 6th.
Several other dignitaries visited the AIT booth, including the
president of NSTDA and the director of NANOTEC, amongst
others.
Thailand’s desire to enhance its competitiveness to develop and
apply nanotechnology-based research was in clear evidence at the
1st biannual Nano Thailand Symposium (NTS)
2008 (http://www.nanothailand.org/p/default)
recently conducted at the Queen Sirikit National
Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
AIT’s Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology (http://www.nano.ait.asia),
which is one of only eight centers of excellence in
Thailand, was well represented at the symposium with an
informational display of its postgraduate educational programs and
examples of its leading-edge research in sensors and nano
particles.
The symposium held from 6-8 November was organized by
Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and the
National Nanotechnology Center, Thailand (NANOTEC) under the umbrella
of the National Science and Technology Development Agency
(NSTDA).
One of the country’s foremost researchers, AIT’s Professor
Joydeep Dutta, who leads nanotechnology education at AIT and has been
instrumental in the creation of its Nanotechnology Center of
Excellence, also chaired a parallel conference session on
the topic of sensors on November 6th.
The event showcased AIT’s inventions and leading research work
in relation to nanotechnology, with a large number of participants
showing a keen interest on its nanotechnology programs.
Student visitor traffic to the AIT booth was quite high. So too
was interest from the Thai media who conducted extensive interviews on
site. Three Thai television reports are forthcoming in the
coming weeks.
Read reports in the
BangkokPost and
ThaiRath newspapers that shed light on Prof. Joydeep
Dutta’s work:

NTS is a part of a series of premier international
conference and exhibitions on nanotechnology that bring together
world-leading researchers and exhibitors in several focused areas of
science and technology at nanoscale. The event was a major platform to
disseminate research results, and allowed cross-disciplinary exchange
of knowledge to further advance both technological areas and showcase
the latest inventions and innovations.
institutes and the private sector from Thailand and other
some countries. The event was an excellent platform for AIT to network
with other institutes and companies with shared interest, and to
explain opportunities to study nanotechnology to prospective students.
“We were able to attract large numbers of academia and interested
parents of prospective students to come and explore information about
AIT, many of whom said they would consider AIT as a place for their
children’s higher education,” Professor Dutta said.
