AIT recently provided the venue for a two-day meeting to decide the
winners of the first Annual ASAIHL-Scopus Young Scientist Award. The
meeting on November 10-11, 2008 at the AIT Center brought
together twelve of Asia’s most eminent scholars under the leadership of
Prof. Peter Haddawy (seated, third from left), Vice President for
Academic Affairs, to decide this year’s top Asian scientists under
forty years of age.
The panelists of distinguished experts from top academic and research
institutions in the Asia-Pacific region reviewed over 180 applications
and selected winners of the awards.
Three panelists sat in each of the four award categories
– Agricultural Sciences, Life Sciences, Medicine and Engineering and
Technology – and selected on the winners using criteria such as
citations and h-index generated from the Scopus citation database and
evaluation of the documented social impact of the applicants’
research.
The award winners will be publically recognized during a special
ceremony at the ASAIHL 28th General Conference on 12 – 14 December 2008
at University Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia.
The ASAIHL International Office received competitive applications from
more than 17 universities in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Singapore,
Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Pakistan, Indonesia
and India.
