To draw international and domestic media attention to the
CSR Asia Summit 2008 which AIT is hosting from 3-4 November, last week
on October 27 President Said Irandoust represented the Institute as a
panelist at a major press conference at the Foreign Correspondents’
Club of Thailand (FCCT) in downtown
Bangkok. The
president was joined at the event by Mr. Richard Welford, the Chairman
of Hong Kong-based CSR Asia, and Ambassador HE Kasit Piromya, who was
the former ambassador of
Thailand to five countries, including
the United States and Japan, and the Thailand Representative of the
Caux Round Table.

This was the first time that AIT has participated at a press
conference at the FCCT. Organized by AIT’s Promotions Support Service
Unit (PSSU) along with APCO, the press conference attracted over 60
representatives of the Thai and international media and members of the
Bangkok-based foreign diplomatic corps, the private sector, academia,
and international and nongovernmental organizations.

A particular highlight of the event was the unveiling of CSR
Asia’s ‘Asian CSR Barometer’, which is
Asia’s first
comparative study on CSR reporting and practice. The report compared
top listed companies in
Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and
Singapore in areas such as environmental and supply chain
practices, corporate CSR strategy, human resource performance,
stakeholder engagement, corporate governance, community investment and
CSR communication.

International media who attended the press conference included
the news agency Inter Press Service (
IPS), Reader's Digest,
Radio France Internationale, the Thai News Agency and
Japan’s Bangkok Shuho Co. Prominent Thai media included the
Bangkok Post, The Nation, Prachachart Turakij,
Krungthep Turakij, Strategic Marketing, Econnews, Manager Daily,
Positioning, Post Today, Manager Weekly, Chulalongkorn University
Press, BK Magazine, and Siam Turakij.
