Long live His Majesty the King of Thailand
AIT joined the people of Thailand in paying its humble respects and
tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand on the
joyous occasion of His Majesty’s recent 81st birthday
celebrations.
On 7 December 2008, AIT President Said Irandoust participated in the
Grand Reception held to mark the auspicious occasion of the birthday
anniversary of His Majesty the King of Thailand, which took place at
the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of
Thailand represented His Majesty the King of Thailand at a Royal
Audience for 30 AIT students.
Sustainable Papermaking Seminar at AIT
On 27 November, Prof. Said Irandoust (pictured above)
delivered the welcome remarks at the “Sustainable Papermaking
Seminar” which was organized by the Pulp and Paper Technology
(PPT) field of study from the School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD). This took place at the AIT Conference
Center.
SOM dual degree grad top of his class at CERAM Grande Ecole, France
Mr. Tayyab Waqas Amjed, a Pakistani MBA grad (August
2008) from the School of Management MBA, was recently recognized for
his outstanding academic performance at France’s prestigious CERAM,
Grande Ecole. Mr. Amjed earned his dual degree MSc in logistics and
supply chain with an accumulated grade point average of 4.9/5.0.
Mr. Amjed was also selected by the CERAM management to address
the school’s convocation on behalf of all graduating students.
SERD climate change expert honored for going the “Extra Mile” in air quality research
One of AIT’s leading climate change experts, Associate
Professor N. T. Kim Oanh, (pictured above with her award) was
recently honored by her peers from around Asia for her proactive
academic contributions to the study of air quality and atmospheric
pollution.

Upon the recommendation of the Faculty Evaluation Panel (FEP),
AIT President Said Irandoust has approved the promotion of Dr.
Bernadette Resurreccion, faculty in the Gender and Development
Studies Field of Study in the School of Environment Resources and
Development (SERD) from the rank of Assistant Professor to Associate
Professor.
Dr. Joydeep Dutta promoted to Full Professor
On 5 November 2008 the AIT Executive Committee approved the promotion
of Dr. Joydeep Dutta (faculty in the
Microelectronics Field of Study in the School of Engineering and
Technology) to the rank of full Professor.
Dr. Dutta also serving as Director of the Center of Excellence in
Nanotechnology and Associate Dean for New development at the school of
engineering & technology, AIT, joined the institute in April 2003.
He completed his Ph.D in 1990 from the Indian Association for the
Cultivation of Science, India (Calcutta University). In 1991 and 1992
he did Post Doctoral work at the Electrotechnical Laboratory (ETL,
Japan) and at Ecole Polytechnique (France) before moving to Switzerland
in 1993 where he was associated with the Swiss Federal Institute of
Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland until 2003.

AIT-TU-NSTDA Sports Day
AIT ladies hold the Insitute
banner with pride.
High spirits and a dash of friendly competition warmed the not
so common chilly weather on 31 October 2008 at the AIT campus,
just north of Bangkok central.
That Friday marked the much anticipated AIT-TU-NSTDA Sports Day.
Mumbai victims remembered at candlelight ceremony
The Asian Institute of Technology was deeply saddened and shocked by
the indiscriminate terrorist attack in Mumbai recently. Such violence
is extremely hard to comprehend and the close ties that AIT enjoys with
the Government of India renders this tragedy even more
poignant.
