Asia-Link project supports engineering education in Afghanistan

 
AIT recently hosted the second workshop of the Partnership
Management Committee of the EC funded Asia-Link project “Euro-Asia
Partnership for Development of Human Resource Capacity of Engineering
Education in Afghanistan”. The project links AIT with Slovak University
of Technology (STU, Slovakia), Vienna University of Technology (VUT,
Austria), Kabul Polytechnic University (KPU, Afghanistan) and Herat
University (HU, Afghanistan) to collaborate on ways to contribute to
the improvement of engineering education in Afghanistan by building
partnerships between European and Asian higher education institutions.
The workshop on 16-17 February reviewed the results of the first year
of the project and planned the work ahead. Specific project activities
include a master degree and short-term study programs at partner
universities as well as the organization of scientific seminars in
Afghanistan.

Professor Peter Haddawy
, Vice President for Academic Affairs,
accompanied by Dr. Pritam K. Shrestha, Head of External
Relations and Communications Office (ERCO), met the members of the
Partnership Management which included Professor Naim Assad,
President of Herat University, Dr. Juma Haydary, overall project
coordinator from STU, Dr. Pavel Timàr from STU, Ing.
Peter Gabko from VUT, Dr. Oleg Shipin and Mr.
Jean-Philippe Thouard
from AIT. During this exploratory meeting,
the experts were able to discuss and pinpoint new ways to strengthen
partnerships.
