April 3 2009 marked another of
AIT’s new partnerships with the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with the Kalinga
Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Orissa, India.
This cooperation will strengthen the relationship
between the two institutions by developing collaboration in various
academic, research, training, and faculty and staff development
activities on areas of mutual interest.
H.E. Ms. Latha Reddy, Ambassador of India to Thailand and Mr. Abhijit
Chakraverthy, Consular, were present during the MoU signing. H.E. Ms. Latha Reddy congratulated both the
institutes and expressed her full and strong support for this new
initiative.
Under this MoU, KITT plans to send about 60
students for a summer program on Rural and
Regional Development Planning (RRDP) next year, 2010. This program aims
to supply KIIT’s School of Rural Management students with relevant
knowledge on sustainable and holistic rural development for the
elimination of the rural-urban divide in India and other countries of
South Asia.
Dr. B. Rath and Mr Ajjay Pradhan (KIIT) discussed the technical and academic
aspects of the program with AIT’s RRDP specialists Prof. Jayant Kumar
Routray, who is also the director of
the ASEAN Regional Center of Excellence on MDGs, and Prof. Gopal
Thapa.
