AIT’s Prof. C. Visvanathan (seated, first from left)
of the Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) field of study
recently made a big impact with the media in Pakistan, conducting an
international workshop at the National University of Science and
Technology (NUST), Islamabad on “Membrane Technology for Wastewater
Reclamation and Reuse” that drew widespread publicity for AIT.
The workshop held from 13-14 May attracted 200 participants, and was
part of AIT’s contribution to assist the creation of a Centre of
Excellence on Wastewater Reuse at NUST, one of the country’s leading
universities.
The event was widely publicized by the English and local language
newspapers. Prof. C. Visvanathan also appeared for a
30-minute interview on the Pakistani television program “Guest in Town”
broadcast on the national channel PTV. He used this national platform
to explain AIT’s pioneering research work in the field of Membrane
Technology, and Wastewater Reuse.
During his two-day visit to Islamabad, Prof. Visvanathan also
discussed with NUST officials possibilities for technical assistance
from the EEM program (located at the School of Environment, Resources
and Development) on setting-up an analytical laboratory. AIT was
further asked to assist in developing a membrane technology-based water
reuse pilot scale experimental research facility at the Institute for
Environmental Science and Technology, with funding from NUST and
HEC/MOST, Prof. Visvanathan said.
NUST has expressed interest in pursuing discussions with AIT on
developing a mechanism for new financial and technical arrangements
concerning NUST doctoral scholarships in the field of EEM, he said.
