Congratulations to Dr. Poompat Saengudomlert (right),
AIT faculty member from Telecommunications (TC) Field of Study, School
of Engineering and Technology (SET) whose co-authored paper with an AIT
alumnus Mr. Sucha Supittayapornpong (left), currently
a Research Associate at TC, received the Best Paper Award at the 2009
6th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics,
Computer, Telecommunications, and Information Technology (or in short
ECTI-CON 2009) in Pattaya, Thailand, on 8 May 2009.
The paper extends an existing static framework for joint flow control,
routing and medium access control (MAC) in random access multi-hop
wireless networks in to a dynamic framework where link capacities vary
over time.
“I felt glad that we were able to contribute to the academic
reputation of AIT. The fact that a work from AIT's master thesis
can be published into an award winning paper should help reflect our
academic strength. On a personal note, I am very happy for Mr.
Sucha, who is now looking for an opportunity to continue his study in
the doctoral level. I hope this award will help make it
possible,” Dr. Poompat expressed how he felt about receiving the
award.
“Our paper was among the very few which focus on fundamental
research. This was perhaps the key reason why it was
awarded. In this paper, we attempt to make our previous published
results on a protocol for wireless multi-hop networks more practical by
taking into account link capacity variations. Although the nature
of the work is somewhat theoretical, we hope that it will help us
understand and justify the ways things are done in practice. The
work is far from over; there is still a lot to learn,” Dr. Poompat
added.
